The Cost of Manual Safety Documentation

Paper-based processes put your company at risk - from OSHA fines to lost contracts.

Still using paper checklists? The $16,550 fine is the smallest number on the table.

Stuck in enterprise EHS? You're paying $3,000–$8,000/mo for features your crews never use.

One serious citation, fully loaded

$1.4M+

vs the $16,550 fine: 85x bigger

Three-year exposure from a single serious violation

The $16,550 fine is about 1% of it. The rest arrives later, in premiums, your EMR, and the bids you never see.

Sources: OSHA penalty schedule, OSHA Safety Pays, and our full breakdown.

OSHA fine for a serious violation
$16,550
Indirect costs (investigation, downtime, retraining) (up to 4.5x)
~$74,000
Workers' comp premium uplift (1–3 yrs)
10–20%+
EMR jump from 0.92 to 1.15 on a $2M premium
+$460,000/yr
Carried across the 3-year EMR window
≈ $1.4M

Not counted: TRIR-based bid exclusion (operators cut off at 0.5–1.5) and a $10M+ litigation tail in severe cases.

At $149/mo, that exposure covers over 780 years of BasinCheck.

Common Documentation Gaps

Audits are inconsistent

Different supervisors use different checklists, or no checklist at all. Without standardization across crews, the same rig gets inspected differently every time. Critical items get missed, and there's no way to compare results across locations or time periods.

What users are saying

"
I used BasinCheck's CSV validator tool to assist with my OSHA-300 submission. Typically, this is an arduous and frustrating process, but this year was a breeze. I exported my CSV and let BasinCheck do the rest.

I appreciate how user-friendly BasinCheck actually is. It is not cumbersome and very easy to roll out to all levels of potential users.

Yes. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires employers with 11 or more employees in most industries, including oil and gas, to maintain OSHA 300 logs and post the 300A annual summary from February 1 through April 30 each year (see OSHA recordkeeping requirements at osha.gov/recordkeeping). The electronic submission deadline for the 2025 reporting year is March 2, 2026. BasinCheck auto-generates both forms from your incident data so you never miss a filing.
